[Axis of Xiang Shengmo’s Big Tree Wind Signal Map]
Axis of Big Tree Wind Signal Map, Ming Dynasty, Xiang Shengmo’s painting, paper edition, color setting, 115.4 cm vertically and 50.4 cm horizontally
Some scholars believe that this picture is a figure painting with the meaning of remembrance of the old country. It was created by Xiang Shengmo after the fall of the Ming Dynasty, expressing his remembrance of the old country and expressing his deep sorrow. In the picture, there is an ancient tree in the nearby Pituo, towering and independent. An old man stands with his staff on his back, looking up at the distant green mountains and the sunset, wandering and chanting, as if he could not bear to leave. At the top right of the picture, the author wrote a seven-character quatrain: “The wind is blowing in the middle of the big tree, and the sun is falling in the west, and the sea is lonely. The short policy is always at the same time (at the same time), and it is hard to look back at the wild cattail.” The image of the ancient tree is distinctive and unique, and the background is simple and empty, which is like reading through the vicissitudes of life and suffering from the wind and rain. Although the leaves are destroyed by frost and snow, they are all gone, but they stand tall and have an unyielding inner spirit. The whole picture, including the poem title, gives people a feeling of depression, sadness, anger, loneliness and desolation.
