Landscape Map Fan Page, Ming Dynasty, Song Maojin painting, gold paper, color setting, 16.7cm in length and 54.8cm in width
The fan page has its own title: “Ren Zi’s spring writing is like asking for Mr. Zhonglao. Song Maojin.” The seal is “Mingzhi” Zhu Wenyin
“Renzi” is the fortieth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1612)
The subject matter depicted in this picture is not the lofty mountains that Song is best at expressing, but the life state of various trees in early spring: some dead trees are intertwined, some new branches are green, and some are already luxuriant. It can be seen that the author has a careful observation of trees, and can skillfully use pen and ink to express the withered appearance of trees. In the middle of the painting, there is a hut with a person sitting in it. His leisurely sitting state is exactly the theme of the painting that the author wants to express. Such paintings reflecting literati’s wild and elegant feelings were very common in the late Ming Dynasty, and Shen Shiyun, Zhao Zuo and others had many works. The whole painting combines work and writing. It has both the literary legacy of the Wumen School of Painting and the beautiful style of Songjiang School of Painting, which is different from Song’s traditional painting style
