[Yushuangchi arm rest]
Yushuangchi arm rest, yuan, 10 cm long, 3.4 cm wide, and 1 cm thick
The arm rest is blue and white, with ochre stain, in sheet shape, rectangular shape, with “S” shape at both ends, and rolled down at both sides. The front side is embossed with the design of double chi holding ganoderma lucidum, and the back side is decorated with cloud pattern
This work is a known early jade arm rest. After the Song Dynasty, a large number of jade articles were decorated with dragon motifs, but the image of the dragon has no longer the characteristics of the Han Dynasty’s dragon motif, and is more like a reptile. The design of double chi ganoderma lucidum is more common on the jade of the Yuan Dynasty. According to the style of the work, the chi pattern and the characteristics of ganoderma lucidum, it can be determined that it was made in the Yuan Dynasty.
