Picture scroll of Zhao Mengfu’s beautiful scenery

[Volume of Zhao Mengfu’s Huangdaisheng Painting]

Volume of the Huangdaisheng Painting, painted by Zhao Mengfu in the Yuan Dynasty, in silk, with light colors, 25.4 cm in length and 36.2 cm in width
This picture shows a bird of Dai Sheng perching on a bamboo branch. Looking back, he looks alert. The bamboo branches are drawn by double-hook method, and Dai Sheng uses boneless method to draw and set ochre yellow. The painting is bright and clean with meticulous strokes. The exquisite painting style inherits the painting style of the Northern Song Painting Academy, but the painting style of “Youhuang” adopts the calligraphy brush, which shows the painter’s pursuit of literati interest. Among Zhao Mengfu’s works, flower-and-bird painting is the rarest. This painting should be his early work
This work was once collected by Liang Qingbiao, a great collector in the early Qing Dynasty, and Qianlong’s Inner House.
