This plate belongs to high temperature cobalt blue glaze porcelain. There are four blue-glazed white dragon plates handed down from the Yuan Dynasty. In addition to the one collected by the Palace Museum, there is one each collected by Japan’s Chuguang Art Museum, Osaka City’s Toyo Ceramic Art Museum and the Great Vader Foundation in London, UK
High-temperature cobalt blue glaze porcelain is one of the new varieties of Jingdezhen kiln in the Yuan Dynasty, which is the predecessor of the Ming Dynasty Ji blue glaze. The shapes of the blue glazed ware of the Yuan Dynasty include plum vases, y í instruments, cups, plates, etc. The decoration methods include painting gold and pasting dragon, flying phoenix and seahorse patterns with white clay pile. Blue glazed ware decorated with white dragon patterns can only be seen in plum vases and plates.
