Malin orange green picture page

[Malin orange and green picture page]

Orange and green picture page, Song Dynasty, Malin painting, wan fan page, silk version, color setting, vertical 23 cm, horizontal 23.5 cm
This picture shows “Marlin”. The seal of Zhu Wenjian of Xiang Zijing in the Ming Dynasty has four seals: “Xiang Zijing Family Collection”, “Ink Forest Secret Play”, “God” and “Product”. The inscription on the border: “Orange and Green Map of Malin in the Southern Song Dynasty”
The orange in the picture changes from green to yellow, and is full of branches. The painter smoothly sketched the outline of the orange leaves with a thick and even pen, and filled the leaves with yellow-green. Although the leaves were not many, their vibrant colors added a few vitality to the picture, and the various gestures of side, turn, reverse and positive also brought a dynamic rhythm to the whole picture. As soon as the painting method of orange is changed, it will be painted flat and halo dyed, and then it will be directly shaped with pen coloring powder, thus vividly showing the rough texture of orange peel. Although the painting has gone through wear and tear, and many white powder spots have peeled off, revealing the yellow silk bottom, it still shows the extraordinary skills of Marlin
Orange is also known as Xiangyuan, which means reunion. The “Orange, Yellow, Orange and Green Painting” created by Lin Chun, a painter of the Southern Song Academy of Painting, in the collection of the Taipei Palace Museum, is the same as this painting in terms of composition and performance techniques of oranges and leaves. It can be seen that such themes and painting techniques are more common in the Southern Song Academy of Painting.
