Zhao Mengjian’s ink orchid scroll

[Zhao Mengjian’s ink orchid scroll]

The ink orchid scroll, written by Zhao Mengjian in the Song Dynasty, is in light ink, 34.5 cm vertically and 90.2 cm horizontally
This page is signed with “Zhao Zigu still gave the money in Zhai”. Seal “Zigu Sketch”. Mo Lan is the subject of Zhao Mengjian’s paintings. The picture is painted with two orchids, with radiating long leaves scattered at random, opening and closing, and pitching and stretching. The poem from the title reads: “In June, the heat in Hunan is steaming, and the fragrance is refreshing. He once moved to the west of Zhejiang, and only one or two stems of talent were born at one year old.” The poem shows the author’s lofty and refined thinking
In the picture, the brush is soft and hard, the flowers and the leaves of the orchid are all dotted, and the soil slope is lightly brushed with a flying white brush, with a little moss. The orchid leaves are all in light ink, and the flower stamens are slightly dark, with subtle changes, forming a contrast of ink. Although the painting is ink and wash, its style is elegant and “far better than coloring”. His friend Zhou Mi Zeng said, “Zhao Mengjian’s ink orchid is the best. Its leaves are like iron flowers, and its stems are also good…. There is no such work in the past.”.
