The picture shows four people. On the left is a monk sitting upright on a bamboo cushion and back chair. The more upright posture seems to indicate his consistent caution and restraint. The picture on the right shows a middle-aged scholar and a monk sitting on a drum-shaped stool opposite each other, with a thin face, a focused expression and a forward movement of his body, indicating that he is eager to cater to the monk’s conversation. A middle-aged monk and a scholar were accompanied by a boy. In terms of character dynamics and artistic style, this book is close to the Liao Boben, but it omits the situation of servants cooking tea behind the monks.
