A vow was inscribed on the seat: “On February 23, the first year of Wuding’s reign, Wang Shansi was in the garrison when he met with an illness. He vowed to build a Guanyin statue area. There were willing parents, who would see and receive wealth, and the dead would live in heaven and serve Buddha inside and outside.” The “garrison” refers to military service outside, and the “illness” refers to physical illness. Because Guanyin can cure all kinds of diseases of believers, it is a common practice for ordinary people to make a vow to watch videos and pray for recovery after getting sick.
