[Blue jade nose button “Wang Zun” seal]
Blue jade nose button “Wang Zun” seal, Eastern Han Dynasty, printing surface 2.4 × 2.4 cm, 1.9 cm high
This is a private print of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is made of sapphire, and has a nose button. The printed characters are seal script, white text, and “Wang Zun” is read horizontally from the right. The two characters are juxtaposed and occupy different printing areas, obviously taking into account the specific structure of the printed characters. The printed jade is light green, containing faint white pieces, such as clouds and the sky. There are yellow bands on both sides of the printed body, floating above the original color, like a line
Most of the Chinese characters are based on the small seal script. Because they are cast, chiseled or carved, the style of the font after being printed is different from that of direct writing, so they are also called “Han seal”, which is also reflected in other inscriptions in the Han Dynasty. This print is thin and round, stretching and relaxing, like direct writing, with strong brushwork.
