This plate was unearthed in Tomb 28, Gaotai, Jiangling, Jingzhou. It is made of wood, open, flat bottom, painted with black paint on the outside and red paint on the inside. The center of the inner sole is composed of three concentric circles of black thin lines. The center of the circle is painted with birds. Four abstract dragon patterns are painted around the four concentric circles, and two birds are painted inside the dragon pattern. The shape of the dragon is curved, the body is curved, the head and tail are rolled in, and the head and tail and the claw are decorated with vortex cloud patterns. The dragons seemed to be rolling and rolling. The three birds are all black in outline, and the one in the center of the inner circle is standing, with head high and neck bent, long legs and short tail, and a relaxed manner; The other two looked at each other from afar, one in the form of singing and the other in the form of walking. The decorative belt with short lines is painted on the surface of the plate, and the outer wall has no lines. The whole vessel is extremely beautiful with bright colors and gorgeous patterns
Although the abstract dragon and phoenix patterns on lacquerware still exist in the Western Han Dynasty, their forms and expression methods have become simplified and standardized. The abstract Yunlong painted on this plate, with its curly body and exaggerated image, is a very abstract freehand painting; Phoenix meticulous painting, vivid and lifelike, is a realistic work of bionics. The whole picture is full of the decorative style and characteristics of Western Han lacquerware.
