Morrison’s full name George· Ernest· George Ernest Morrison (February 4, 1862 – May 30, 1920) was the chief reporter of The Times in China (1897-1912)
Morrison made an investigation in northwest China in 1910 and took a large number of old Chinese photos. This group of photos was taken by the author in Anxi County from April 1-7, 1910
Anxi County (now Guazhou County) is subordinate to Jiuquan City, Gansu Province. It is located at the west end of Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, connecting Yumen City, the oil city, to the east, Dunhuang City to the west, Subei Mongolian Autonomous County to the north and south, Hami City, Xinjiang to the northwest. Since ancient times, Anxi County has been a hub of communication between east and west, and an important town of merchants on the ancient Silk Road
The name of Anxi County was used until the beginning of 2006. In 2006, it was renamed as Guazhou County upon approval of the State Council
