On January 4, 1909, an American geologist, Zhang Bolin, and his son, Luo Lin, set out from Chicago and arrived in Shanghai on February 2 of the same year. During his stay in China, Zhang Bolun and his son successively visited 13 provinces including Jiangsu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Henan, Zhili, Shanxi, and took more than 600 photos recording the social life of the late Qing Dynasty, which were later summarized into a photo album in 1909=“ http://www.laozhaopian5.com/jingdian/1891.html “target=”_ Blank “>Zhang Bolin’s Chinese Photography.

The following photos were taken during the journey from Harbin to Manzhouli (June 9, 1909 to June 10, 1909) after the expedition ended in Shenyang:

The expedition left Shenyang at 9:15 p.m. on June 8, 1909, stopped in Changchun at 5 a.m. on June 9, and arrived in Harbin at 2:30 p.m. At 3:42, transfer to the international train for Moscow, and arrive in Manchuria at 3:00 p.m. on June 10

Photos taken in Harbin

Luo Lin mentioned in his memory that at 4 a.m. on June 9, 1909, he woke up in the train, and the Pullman train made in Chicago was running on the undulating plains in the middle of Manchuria. The black soil here was obviously fertile land suitable for farming. At 5 a.m., they arrived in Changchun, Japan’s sphere of influence, and transferred to the Russian train to Harbin, The baggage handling and weighing of the members of the delegation were very slow. The Russian wide gauge railway started from Changchun, and the locomotive they were riding seemed heavy

<p, They should migrate to sparsely populated and fertile areas in the north. The people he saw in Manchuria were relatively sturdy, almost as tall as the Russian soldiers who filled every railway station
