Zhang Bolin’s Chinese Photography Collection in 1909 (42): A Journey from Shanhaiguan to Shenyang

On January 4, 1909, an American geologist, Zhang Bolin, and his son, Luo Lin, set out from Chicago and arrived in Shanghai on February 2 of the same year. During his stay in China, Zhang Bolun and his son successively visited 13 provinces including Jiangsu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Henan, Zhili, Shanxi, and took more than 600 photos recording the social life of the late Qing Dynasty, which were later summarized into a photo album in 1909=“ http://www.laozhaopian5.com/jingdian/1891.html “target=”_ Blank “>Zhang Bolin’s Chinese Photography.

The following photos were taken during the journey from Shanhaiguan to Shenyang (June 5 to June 6, 1909) after the investigation in Beijing:

The investigation team left Beijing at 8:30 a.m. on June 5, 1909 by train, passed through Tianjin at 11:25 a.m., and arrived at Shanhaiguan at 6:00 p.m. for a rest. At 8 a.m. on June 6, 1909, the train left Shanhaiguan and arrived at Xingren Station (now Shenyang) at 6:30 p.m

Luo Lin wrote in his memoirs that after the train left Beijing, it was almost a perfect flat road that led directly to Tianjin. They arrived at Tianjin Station at 11:25 a.m., and Luo Lin did not get off the train, so he did not see the complete scene of Tianjin, but he was impressed by the strong influence of foreign countries, because he found many foreign buildings

Then the train continued to descend towards the sea until Dagu near Tanggu, changed its route, bypassed Shanhaiguan along the northeast, and he saw many salt pans along the way
