At 5:23 on June 4, 1928, when Zhang Zuolin’s special train passed through the Sandong Bridge at the intersection of the Jingfeng and Nanman railways, the train was bombed by Japanese Guandong Army’s embedded explosives, Zhang Zuolin was seriously injured, and died on the same day after being sent back to Shenyang. In order to stabilize the situation, we should not lose heart. Zhang Xueliang, his son, left the front line and returned to Shenyang on June 18, stabilizing the situation in Northeast China. Zhang Xueliang did not officially die until he inherited his father’s post on June 21

1928年6月4日5时23分张作霖乘坐的专列经过京奉、南满铁路交叉处的三洞桥时，火车被日本关东军预埋炸药炸毁，张作霖被炸成重伤，送回沈阳后，于当日死去。为稳定局势，秘不发丧。其子张学良从前线动身，于6月18日赶回沈阳，稳定了东北局势，直到张学良21日继承父亲职务后，才正式公开发丧。

日本人假惺惺的前来吊唁

张作霖身亡后，张学良为父亲筹建陵墓，名为元帅林。这座陵墓建筑耗资1400万大洋，主体工程于1931年完成。整个陵园坐北朝南，占地面积810多亩，由方城、圆城、墓室三部分组成，颇具帝王陵寝气势。但由于“九一八”爆发，张作霖并没有在此下葬。
