At 5 p.m. on August 8, 1945, the Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov summoned the Japanese Ambassador to Moscow, Sato Shangwu, to issue the Soviet declaration of war against Japan. After the chime of 0:00 on August 9, the Soviet Red Army soldiers divided into four routes, crossed the Sino Soviet border and launched a full line attack on the Japanese Kwantung Army. On August 15, the Emperor of Japan broadcast the surrender edict. The whole line of resistance of the Kwantung Army collapsed in an instant. On August 18, the commander of the Kanto Army, Yasuo Yamada, ordered the Northeast Japanese army to stop fighting and surrender to the Soviet army
