Most of the old photos of Shaoxing from 1939 to 1940 in the Republic of China were taken from Yadong Prints Collection

The Yadong Prints Collection was a magazine published by Japanese spies in 1924-1944 when they took pictures of human geography in various parts of China

Shaoxing is a prefecture level city in Zhejiang Province. It is located in the north central part of Zhejiang Province and on the south bank of Hangzhou Bay

The ancient capital of Yue was built in 490 BC, which has a history of nearly 2500 years. According to historical records, Dayu successfully controlled the flood. 1939-1940年民国年间的绍兴老照片,本组照片大多出自《亚东印画辑》。

《亚东印画辑》是当年日本间谍于1924-1944年拍摄中国各地的人文地理照片而出版的杂志。

绍兴,浙江省地级市。位于浙江省中北部、杭州湾南岸。

越国古都建于公元前490年,距今已有近2500年建城史。据史载:大禹治水告成,在境内茅山会集诸侯,计功行赏,死后葬于此山,因更名茅山曰”会稽”,是为会稽名称之由来。春秋时期,於越民族以今绍兴一带为中心建立越国,成为春秋列国之一。

绍兴是著名的水乡、桥乡、酒乡、书法之乡、名士之乡。绍兴素称“文物之邦、鱼米之乡”。著名的文化古迹有兰亭、禹陵、鲁迅故里、沈园、柯岩、蔡元培故居、周恩来祖居、秋瑾故居、马寅初故居、王羲之故居、贺知章故居等。

大禹庙
大禹庙,在市郊东南6公里的会稽山麓,始建于1400多年前的南朝梁初,中祀夏禹。正殿为1932年重建。本照片中的建筑大多为明清建筑。

大禹陵,禹帝治水功成之后,巡游南越国途中,染疾病殁,后葬于会稽山。片中的碑亭,立有大禹陵之碑,为明嘉靖十九年的绍兴知府南大吉所立。禹碑1956年被台风刮断,后在禹和陵字处拼接修复后至今。
