Tonight, I would like to share with you a group of old photos of Qianfo Cliff in Guangyuan, Sichuan Province, taken by Xie Gelan on March 30, 1914
The Thousand Buddha Cliff Sculpture is located 4 kilometers north of Guangyuan City, on the east bank of Jialing River and on the ancient Jinniu Shu Road. It has a long history and superb carving skills. The grottoes began in the late Northern Wei Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty, and ended in the Qing Dynasty. After thousands of years, a 388m long, 45m high Buddhist cliff, more than 950 niches for statues, and more than 7000 Buddhist stone carving art treasures were formed. Buddha niches are stacked and distributed like honeycombs, making them the most magnificent grottoes in Sichuan

千佛崖摩崖造像位于广元城北4公里，嘉陵江东岸，金牛古蜀道上，历史悠久，雕刻技艺精湛。石窟始凿于北魏晚期，兴盛于唐朝，止于清代，历经千年，从而形成一座佛崖长388米，高45米，造像950余龛， 7000余尊的佛教石刻艺术宝库。佛龛层叠分布，密如蜂巢，是四川规模最为宏伟的石窟群。

千佛崖摩崖造像历经千年沉淀以悠久的历史、厚重的文化、精湛的艺术、丰富的人文闻名于世 。特别是“安史之乱”后，四川石窟艺术独步称盛，这与千佛崖沟通南北、承前启后的重要作用是紧密相连的。其规模布局、雕琢水平、题材内容、洞窟形制堪与国内其它著名石窟相媲美，是剑门古蜀道上颗闪亮的明珠，具有很高的历史、文化、艺术和科研价值。
