保山，云南省下辖地级市，位于云南省西南部，东与大理、临沧接壤，北与怒江相连，西与德宏毗邻。保山处于滇西居中的位置，是中国通往南亚、东南亚乃至欧洲各国的必经之地，境内腾冲为云南重要的近代工商业发祥地之一。

地名来源：太保山，原名松山。明嘉靖三年（1524年）永昌改设县治时，因其名与甘肃永昌县重名，于是将城内太保山中的“保山”借用为县名。“保山”一名即始于此时。

保山是云南历史上开发最早的地区之一，历史上为哀牢古国故地，哀牢国王都“勐掌”就位于今保山盆地。保山区划设治的历史悠久，长达两千多年。
