This group of photos was taken by Japanese photographer Chang Panda&Ding at that time; Chen Yezhen co authored Chinese Cultural Historical Sites, Vol. 13, pp. 26-32. The pictures in this book were basically taken between 1906 and 1928, and the specific shooting time of this group of photos is uncertain

湖北黄梅高塔寺砖塔

高塔寺砖塔又名百尺塔、春笋塔、乱石塔。是一座舍利塔，位于黄梅县黄梅镇古塔路，宋大中祥符八年（1015年）由黄梅人唐守忠五兄弟捐资，僧人仁禀主持建造。该塔为八角十三级密檐式仿木结构砖塔，通高（含塔刹）33.4米，塔基平面为正八边形，单边长约3.8米。第三层外壁少量墙砖阳雕“皇帝万岁”、“重臣千秋”、“民安物泰”、“同口功德”、“共成佛道”等字样。

四祖山正觉寺全景

这里的正觉寺就是现在的四祖寺。四祖寺位于黄梅县城西北15公里的双峰山之中。古称幽居寺，原名正觉寺，又名双峰寺，是中国佛教禅宗第四代祖师道信大师的道场。寺庙始建于唐武德七年（公元624年）距今已有1370年的历史，是中国禅宗第一所寺院。明正德、万历、清同治年间多次重建，终毁于战火。现存毗卢塔、众生塔、衣钵塔、灵润桥、四祖殿、蕉云阁及多方摩崖石刻。

黄梅四祖寺不但在我国佛教发展史上占有重要地位，而且在国际上，特别是在日本、印度、韩国、东南亚等国家和中国港澳台地区享有盛誉，也是著名的旅游胜地。

五祖山（东山）远景

位于湖北黄梅县东北。又作冯茂山。俗称东山。以禪宗五祖弘忍住此山阐扬禪风而闻名。五祖入寂后，神秀等葬其遗骸于此山。其后，师戒、秀禪师、法演等相续住此山。其中，法演于此建一大丛林，大阐杨岐之宗风，门弟子甚眾，圜悟克勤、佛鑑慧懃、佛眼清远等均出自其门。此外，山之半腹有一真慧寺，乃五祖所开创者。

五祖山真慧寺全景

这里的真慧寺即五祖寺，原名东山寺，或东禅寺，后世改称五祖寺，位于黄梅县五祖镇东山之上，地处大别山主脉东端南沿，与九江隔江而望。建于唐永徽五年（654年），是中国禅宗第五代祖师弘忍大师的道场，也是六祖慧能大师得法受衣钵之圣地，被御赐为“天下祖庭”。
