Huangpu Road is a not spacious road close to the west bank of Huangpu River. It runs east-west, starting from Daming Road in the west and ending at Qingpu Road in the east, with a total length of 456 meters. It was built in the middle of the 19th century by the Bureau of Works of the Shanghai Public Concession, named after its location on the Huangpu River

In 1884, the German consulate was demolished and rebuilt by the famous German architect Beck· Designed by Peddick. The main buildings are two office buildings and residential buildings with similar appearance, both of which are three storey brick and wood structure western-style houses. They are located on the north bank of Suzhou, becoming the landmark buildings on the beach at that time
