Robert· Larimore· Robert Larimore Pendleton (1890-1957) was a soil scientist and professor of geography at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. He visited China from 1931 to 1933, covering many provinces and cities in China. He took more than 1100 stereoscopic photos, recording the local customs of China during the Republic of China

This group of old photos of Datong were taken by Pendleton on his way back to Peiping after his investigation and shooting in Suiyuan Province (now Inner Mongolia) in the summer of 1931. Note that Pendleton is a soil scientist, so a large number of“ Soil”, It is an important feature of these photos

罗伯特·拉里莫尔·彭德尔顿（Robert Larimore Pendleton，1890-1957）是美国约翰霍普金斯大学土壤科学家和地理学教授，他于1931年至1933年来中国考察，足迹遍及中国多个省市地区，共拍摄了1100余张立体照片，记录了民国时期中国各地的风土人情。

本组大同老照片是彭德尔顿于1931年夏到绥远省（今内蒙古）考察和拍摄后，在返回北平的途中拍摄的60幅大同照片。注意彭德尔顿是土壤学家，所以他的照片中出现了大量的“土壤”，是这批照片的重要特色。
