This group of photos is from Yale University. It records that at the end of 1941, the private Lingnan University moved again and its headquarters moved from Hong Kong to Xianrenmiao Village, Qujiang County (today’s big village, Lishi Town, Zhenjiang District, Shaoguan City). According to the photo, the school had not completed construction at that time, but these simple temporary buildings were named after the buildings of Henan Kangyuan Paradise in Guangzhou
In 1884, B.C. Henry and A.P. Happer, the American missionaries in China, planned to set up a higher school in Guangzhou. In 1888, Gezhi Academy was set up in Shajijinlibu (now No. 63 Road), and Haba was responsible for the academy. Three years later, Haba returned to the United States and the Academy was closed. In 1899, the American priest O.F.Wsner came to Guangzhou to preach and re established the Gezhi Academy, which was located in the Gospel Hall of Sipailou (now Jiefang Middle Road). In 1900, the Boxer Movement against imperialism took place in China. Gezhi Academy moved to Huadai Cuixiu Garden, and then moved to Macao, renamed Lingnan Academy
After the establishment of Lingnan School, Zhong Rongguang was hired to assist in school affairs. In 1903, I bought more than 200 mu of vacant land near Kangle Village in Guangzhou, built plank houses as temporary school buildings, and moved Lingnan School. In 1912, it was renamed Lingnan School. In 1914, it was renamed Lingnan University of Arts and Sciences, which was the beginning of Lingnan University. In 1927, with the efforts of Zhong Rongguang and others, Lingnan University took back the Chinese self run university
In September 1938, Zhong Rongguang resigned from the post of President and assumed the honorary title of President because of the disagreement with the American Foundation on running a school. Li Yinglin succeeded to the post of President. In October of the same year, Guangzhou was occupied and moved to Hong Kong. After the fall of Hong Kong in 1941, it moved to Xianrenmiao Village, Qujiang, and the Agricultural College moved to Pingshi Town, Lechang County. The medical schools were scattered in Hexi Hospital of Shaoguan City and Jiangxi Zhongzheng Medical College. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, they moved back to Guangzhou to resume classes
