The old photos of this group are from the postcard Wuhan War Trail (Wuhan) issued by the Japanese in 1938
From June to October 1938, the anti aggression war between the 5th and 9th theater troops of the National Army and the Japanese troops was launched along the north and south sides of the Yangtze River in the periphery of Wuhan. The battlefield spread across the vast areas of Anhui, Henan, Jiangxi and Hubei provinces. It was the largest, longest and most annihilated battle in the strategic defense phase of the Anti Japanese War. This was the Battle of Wuhan
In this war, the Chinese army fought in bloody battles, killing and injuring more than 257000 Japanese troops at the cost of more than 400000 casualties, which greatly consumed the Japanese army’s effective strength. Although the Japanese army captured Wuhan, its strategic attempt to force the National Government to yield to end the war was not achieved. Since then, China’s Anti Japanese War has entered a stage of strategic stalemate
This group of photos should have been taken after Japan occupied Wuhan. The main locations of the photos are Hankou Japanese Concession and its surrounding areas and near Zhongshan Road in Wuchang. The traces of war can still be seen from the photos. Here is a photo preview:
