Yungang Grottoes are located at the south foot of Wuzhou (Zhou) Mountain, about 16 kilometers west of Datong City, Shanxi Province, and on the north bank of Wuzhouchuan River. The grottoes are dug along the mountain, stretching about 1 km from east to west. There are 45 major caves, 252 large and small grottoes niches, and more than 51000 stone statues, making it one of the largest ancient grottoes in China
