Continue to share the old photos of Hankou in 1938
The Wuhan Defense War generally refers to the Wuhan Battle, which was a battle between the Chinese army and the Japanese aggressors in Wuhan during the Anti Japanese War. From June to October 1938, China’s 5th and 9th theater troops were launched along the north and south sides of the Yangtze River outside Wuhan. The battlefield spread across the vast areas of Anhui, Henan, Jiangxi and Hubei provinces. It was the largest, longest and most annihilated battle in the strategic defense phase of the Anti Japanese War. In this war, the Chinese army fought hundreds of battles, big and small. At the cost of more than 400000 casualties, more than 257000 Japanese troops were killed and wounded, which greatly consumed the Japanese army’s living force. Although the Japanese army captured Wuhan, its strategic plan of forcing the National Government to yield to end the war was not achieved. Since then, China’s Anti Japanese War has entered a stage of strategic stalemate
Robert· Kappa, a world famous war correspondent, has traveled through the famous war zones of World War II. He arrived in Wuhan in early March 1938 and left at the end of September. He stayed in Wuhan for about half a year and shot a lot of works full of visual impact and emotional shock. We have released a group of photos taken by him at that time, see:Old photos of Hankou in 1938 People in the Wuhan Defense War (1)
