- Description:
The Junggar tribe is a tribe of Erut Mongols, located in the Ili region north of Tianshan Mountains. In the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1743), Taiji Gar Danceling sent envoys to present them with good horses. According to his habits and coat color, Emperor Qianlong named the horse “Ruyi Cong”. He ordered Lang Shining to paint it as a huge painting, which was then praised by officials in the Imperial Academy. The name, size and origin of the horse were written in Han, Manchu and Mongolian. The painting records a poem written by the emperor in the 13th year of Qianlong’s reign (1748). With exquisite western techniques, the Lang family depicts the vassal’s offering of tall horses, which is of documentary significance.
