Dong Qichang (1555-1636 AD), born in Huating, Jiangsu Province, has the name Xuanzai and the name Sibai. In the seventeenth year of Wanli (1589), he was a scholar and an official in the Ministry of Rites. He is good at calligraphy and painting, rich in collection, and excellent in appreciation. The magic of running regular script is called the unique generation. The seal on this axis, “Da Da Bo Yin”, is deemed to have been issued in the fifth year of Chongzhen (1632) after the call of Gong Zhan Da Zongbo. Dong Qichang likes to mix with other schools. He creates mysteries by himself and seeks to be more like them than they are like. This section is near the official wall of Zhang Xulang in the Tang Dynasty. It has a slight meaning of the refined and strict handwriting of Zhang Shu. The composition is calm and the strokes are vivid, showing the true style of calligraphy in later years.
