- Description:
Dong Qichang copied in cursive script the “Shocking Snow” written by Lu Chang of Tang Dynasty: “It’s strange that the north wind is fierce, and the vestibule is as bright as the moon. Heaven and people prefer to be skillful, and cut water to make flowers fly.” The overall writing effect of this book is quite different from that of the paper book. The ink color does not change significantly, and the slightly tinged nature also reduces the overall line fineness. Compared with Dong Qichang’s emphasis on materials and pens in paper-based calligraphy, the characteristics of the silk version make him unnecessary to be so refined in his writing attitude, and the pen can also be more frank without false embellishment. Whether in writing or visual expression, this work reflects the characteristics of more entertaining calligraphy.
