  • Description:
According to the inscription and postscript, this picture was made in the fourth year of Xuande (1429). It was painted by Emperor Xuanzong of the Ming Dynasty to reward Minister Yang Shiqi (1365-1444). In the picture, the cat looks up curiously at the hanging copper pot with peony flowers on its head, as if he was planning to jump up and have a look. The cat is homophonic for “old”, wishing a long life, and embodying wealth with peony. In this painting, the pen is fine and delicate. The copper pot flower utensil is suspended. There are three flowers. The middle green leaves gradually rise over the pot handle. It is very light and interesting. Elliptical three foot washing is set on the ground, which is a typical palace utensil made in the early Ming Dynasty.
