Wen Zhengming (1470-1559 A.D.), a native of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, was originally named Bi, with the word Zhengming, and later with the word line, the word Zhengzhong, and the name Tingyunsheng and Hengshan. Painter Shen Zhou is one of the four great painters in the Ming Dynasty. Because of his high age, there are many paintings handed down from generation to generation. The village is surrounded by a fence and built near the water. Pines stand in front of the fence and bamboo is planted behind the house. In the open pavilion, scholars lean against the window and stare at the distant water. This painting of Sima Guang’s Paradise Alone is painted with Wang Meng’s brushwork. It was painted in the late eighty-nine years of age, and its energy is still in its prime.
