Gu Zhengyi was born in Huating, Songjiang, with the name Zhongfang, and the name of Tinglin. He was born in Wanli (1573-1620 A.D.) and once served as a scholar in Zhongshu. He is good at poetry, calligraphy and painting. He is one of the four masters of the Yuan Dynasty. Dong Qichang, a fellow villager, studied with him. The painting is light and bright, with simple trees and figures, similar to the style of the late “Wu School”.
