Xia Chang (1388-1470 AD) was born in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. Zhongzhao is named Ziju Shi. In the 13th year of Yongle’s reign (1415), he became a scholar and was appointed to the cabinet of Taichang Temple Minister. He is good at painting black bamboo. He was the first one in his time. He was famous in remote areas and fought for gold to buy it. There is a saying that “one bamboo in Xiaqing, ten ingots of gold in Xiliang”.
