Han Xizai was an official of the Southern Tang Dynasty in the Five Dynasties, with political talent and artistic attainments. Seeing that the country was declining, he was distressed by the aristocratic bureaucrats’ struggle for power and profit, and placed his troubles in the singing and dancing dinner party. Li Yu, the late leader of the Southern Tang Dynasty, heard that he was living in a wasteful life. He sent Gu Hongzhong, a painter, to sneak into Han’s house late at night to see the scene of his indulging behavior. When he came back, he drew a picture of Han Xizai’s dinner party. The original painting was spread in Suzhou in the Ming Dynasty. Tang Yin (1470-1523 AD) changed the scene of the protagonist playing drums in the original painting into a recreated story figure painting with the garden as the background.
