- Description:
This volume was written in the 41st year of Wanli (1613). Dong Qichang was 59 years old. It has been nearly seven years since Dong resigned as deputy envoy in Huguang. In that year, Dong traveled all over the south of the Yangtze River. In late April, he wrote this book with a wool brush, discussing the theory of calligraphy, appreciating the traces of calligraphy, and commenting on the book, presenting the essence of his calligraphy theory in a concrete way. Although it was mentioned that the wool brush was not easy to use, it was finally completed under the control of Dong Qichang. The characteristics of Yanghao’s softness and ink accumulation are undoubtedly revealed here. The stippling is particularly moist and full. The uncontrollable softness also enriches the line changes, and the use of the characteristics of tools has achieved a state of self transformation.
