- Description:
Gen Shenzhou presented this painting to Ma Yizhi, and later returned it to Liu Hong, the younger brother of Liu Jue. In 1470, Liu Jue wrote a poem on it, showing his expectations for Liu Hong. In the painting, Liu Hong invited Wu Kuan and Wen Lin to write poems. Shen Zhou created this long and narrow landscape painting to create a towering landscape of mountains. The peaks and platforms above the canvas push each other, and clouds, waterfalls and water flow can be seen between them, forming a unique landscape. Below the canvas, a plain and peaceful water habitat is built. In the middle part of the scene, in the house surrounded by bamboo, there is a person sitting reading with a book. Shen Zhou skillfully mixed the landscape features of Huang Gongwang and Wang Meng, creating a new landscape different from the people of the Yuan Dynasty. Wu Kuan pointed out in his poem that this is Liu Hong’s reading place, or it is related to the scenic scenery of his hometown.
