The Antarctic fairy in this painting is the object of folk praying for longevity, commonly known as the Longevity Old Man. The History of the Ming Dynasty once recorded that Emperor Xuanzong personally painted the “Longevity Star Picture” and gave it to Minister Xia Yuanji (1366-1430). At present, it is known that there are two longevity star pictures under the name of Emperor Xuanzong of the Ming Dynasty. In addition to the “Longevity Star Axis of Emperor Xuanzong’s Paintings of the Ming Dynasty” in our hospital, there is also a “Longevity Star Picture Scroll of Emperor Xuanzong’s Paintings of the Ming Dynasty” in the Forbidden City in Beijing.
