Description:
Porcelain wine pot of cylindrical shape with horinzontal ribs simulating bamboo, and spout and handle similarly treated. Painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, green, aubergine and black enamels with birds, plants and rocks. Base glazed.

Comments:Published PDF date : Ming Tianqi 1621-1627 Room 95 label text:PDF B714Wine ewer in bamboo-style This tubular ewer, modelled as a section of bamboo with bamboo handle, spout and knob, is painted in Ming wucai style with the Chinese motif the Three Friends of Winter (pine, prunus and bamboo) symbolising steadfastness in adversity. In the early Qing dynasty (AD 1644–1720) although there is a 青花五彩(qinghuawucai ‘blue and white five colours’) style mostly designs were made without the underglaze blue in a reduced palette using watercolour-like translucent enamels.
