Square porcelain water-pot, with spreading sides. The water-pot has yellow enamel glaze covering the exterior, the base, and a narrow rim on the interior, and a plain felspathic glaze on the rest of the interior. There are two gilded brass dragons facing each other at the rim, which is held in their jaws. There is an inscription on the base.

This colour glaze was used to decorate court porcelain for some five hundred years of the imperial era in China from AD 1403 to AD 1911. Potters fired the water pot twice, first at a porcelain temperature of around 1280 to1320 °C and then in a second, lower-temperature firing to vitrify the lead-fluxed, iron-pigmented glaze.
