Wu Zhen was born in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, with the name of Zhong Gui and the name of Plum Blossom Taoist and Mei Shami. He was born in the 17th year of the Zhiyuan era (A.D. 1280) and died in the 14th year of the Zhizheng era (A.D. 1354). Together with Huang Gongwang, Ni Zan and Wang Meng, they are called the Four Great Masters of the Yuan Dynasty. The Plum Blossom Taoist’s landscape learning is greatly influenced by Ju Ran. In this painting, rocks are painted with a long and smooth strokes. Waterlogging uses light ink, which is light and elegant. The strokes of trees, houses and figures are thick and slightly bald. Although each stroke is not closely connected, it is full of interest and has a heroic momentum.
