Comments:Rawson 1992:Cizhou ware, produced at a large number of kilns in Henan and Shaanxi provinces as well as at the site of this name in Hebei province, is renowned for the use of contrasting black and white slips to produce bold, fluid or fine designs beneath a transparent glaze. The decoration is frequently delineated with incised lines, or created by scraping away one slip to reveal a design through contrast with an underlying slip layer, but equally often it is painted in sweeping strokes of black slip on white.
