This foreground painting is a sparse forest hut, where Yan, a scholar, sits. The cliff stands in the distance across the river, the mist floats, and the top of the mountain is full of jagged rocks. In the meantime, trees grow and list. The far and near trees, slope banks and mountain walls are all made of light crimson and light ink, which makes the scenery slightly hazy. Although the motifs such as platform and mountain rocks that appear in Huang Gongwang’s paintings can be seen in the painting, the whole picture is quiet and elegant in color. It is embedded with exquisite and compact mountain rocks and small bamboo trees with beautiful hair on the slope beside the house. It reveals the influence of literary style and has the flavor of dry and light mountains and waters in the late Ming Dynasty. It should belong to Huang Gongwang’s painting which was changed to the late Ming Dynasty.
