Description:
Of a group of ten fragments of various shapes in orange twill silk damask, nine are now in the V&A, while the tenth is in the British Museum. The pattern seems to be a large floral one, but the pieces are too fragmentary to reconstruct. The surface of some fragments shows evidence of calendaring. Three pieces have selvedges down one edge. One fragment of this set of nine is also depicted as part of the rainbow silks. Weave structures: Warp: silk, untwisted, single, yellow, 52 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, single, yellow, 41 lats/cm. Weave structure: 1/3S twill for pattern on 3/1S twill for foundation.
