Description:
This fragment of Liao samite, compound twill weft-faced on both sides, has a light blue ground, and a pattern in yellow, white, red and green. The pattern is incomplete and only part of an animal (probably an elephant) can be seen, with a white body and three legs, one leg in blue, and a green saddle on its back. Weave structures: Inner warp: silk, untwisted, single, light brown, 20 ends/cm; Binding warp: silk, untwisted, single, green, 20 ends/cm; Weft: silk, untwisted, light blue for the ground, yellow, white, red and green for the pattern, 19 passes/cm. Weave structure: 1/2Z compound twill weft-faced on both sides. 遼式斜紋緯錦殘片。以天藍色緯線作地，黃、白、紅、綠四色緯線顯花，在殘留的織物上可見一動物的白色的身體和三條腿，背上安有藍色和綠色的鞍。從體色、四腿直立及背上有鞍等情況來看，這動物很有可能是大象。 組織結構： 經線：明經：絲，無撚，單根排列，綠色，20根/cm；夾經：絲，無撚，單根排列，淺棕色，20根/cm；緯線：絲，無撚，天藍、黃、白、紅、綠色，19副 /cm；組織：1/2Z斜紋遼式緯重組織。
