Under the plum tree, the beauty holds a mirror and dresses herself up attentively, with a plum shaped “mother of flowers” between her forehead. It is said that Princess Shouyang, the daughter of Emperor Wu of the Southern Dynasty (420-422 AD), was sleeping under the eaves one day when a plum flower fell on her forehead and remained in her forehead when she woke up.
