This picture describes a passage in the literary work Fu on the Back of Red Cliff. Su Dongpo, a litterateur of the Song Dynasty, and his guests are boating under the Red Cliff, crossing the river with a solitary crane. The cliff stone is carved with a large axe. The brushwork of the characters is vigorous and spicy, both of which have the meaning of chasing after Song Ma Yuan. There is no name on the painting, which was once said to be the work of Wu Zhen.
