Description:
A saddle-cloth? A rectangular cloth, domed at one end, with streamers hanging from the longer sides. Central brocaded silk cloth; large floral patterning with smaller motifs of Eight Precious Things [parasol, endless knot, conch shell, wheel, vase etc.] on a light brown ground, bordered by dark blue (inner) and bright yellow (outer) brocaded cloths. Eight pairs of coloured silk brocaded streamers (with tiered triangular flaps) on either side, with a plain yellow satin silk pair at one end. A long cream suede tie (dirty) stitched to domed end. Opposite end has grey/black tabby cotton rectangular panel. Selvedges at the longer sides; warp ends turned and hand stitched; stained, with holes. Saddle-cloth lined with printed tabby cotton cloth: isolated oval-shaped red and white floral motif worked on the diagonal onto a pink ‘ground’.
