Plate 16 from a set of sixteen plates; in the foreground to right the Qianlong Emperor is borne in a litter in a procession moving towards the Ziguangge, a building in the gardens of the Imperial Palace at Peking (Beijing); in the middle ground, a large yurt and behind it, servants preparing food; to left, a large group of defeated rebels, shown kneeling to the left, who attended the event, while to right, court officials, some kneeling; in the distance to right, Marble Bridge and the Baita (White Pagoda) Etching with engraving

Comments:Plate 16 is often titled in modern literature: 凱宴成功諸將士 Victory banquet for the officers and soldiers who had distinguished themselves; ([‘L’Empereur] offre un banquet de victoire aux officiers et soldats qui se sont distingués. None of the plates in the original edition was ever lettered with a title.According to Piazzoli-T’Serstevens (1969), the print is after a drawing by Castiglione.This print is from a complete set (1848,0205.517 to 532) of the sixteen plates known as ‘Victoires et Conquêtes de l’Empereur de la Chine’ commemorating the Qianlong Emperor’s victories in Central Asia from 1755 to1759. They are in a volume half-bound in leather with marbled boards, with gold tooling and ‘CHINESE BATTLES’ on the spine. There is also an incomplete set of fifteen prints (1932,0715.46 to 59, including 48*). For further information, see the Curator’s Comment for 1932,0715.57.
