Comments:This composite work consists of nine identical images of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, all impressed with the same woodblock. The block was also used for the Avalokitesvara image accompanied by a text (1919,0101,0.242) that is also now in the British Museum collection. The deity on both the prints and on the silk painting to the right of this section are similar in pose, in the flow of the scarf and in the presentation of attributes – all characteristics that identify Avalokitesvara.
