Description:
Octagonal plate. Coat of arms of Tyndall, “Argent a fess gules between three garbs sable”; crest, “A lion rampant gules holding a garb or”. This service was made for a cadet branch of the Tyndale family who lived in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Somerset. In 1674 Onesiphorus Tyndal came to Bristol from Melksham Court and engaged in the West India trade, amassing a fortune and was Sheriff of Bristol in 1707 and 1708. He died in 1748. His grandson Thomas succeeded him, and built a house at Fort Royal, Tyndalls Park, he died in 1794. The family were engaged in sugar refining. This service may have been made for Thomas Tyndall. Made of enamelled porcelain.
